Exploring Autumn with colour, texture, pattern and form using traditional techniques of applique and patchwork. Recycled materials are embellished in a rich narrative of glass, wood, metallic and plastic beads, buttons and sequins. Original poetry captures the essence of the season: ''Skeletal frames take on the shape of old bones...''
Spring
Capturing the essence of Spring in the April issue of KURVE magazine 2020. Recycled materials, traditional techniques and fabric off-cuts establish a rich colour palette of new shoots and Spring flowers with a delicate light reflected in sequins, buttons and old jewels. Featuring 'Springgtime' and 'Spring Garden'. Original poetry ''Easter Sandals'' invites the viewer to join the egg hunt in South Shields, fond memories of childhood.
Mother and Child
''Mother and Child'' featured in the January 2020 issue of KURVE magazine. Textile wall hanging celebrating the union between a Mother and her child. Created from recycled materials using traditional techniques of patchwork, applique, padded 3D structure, fabric manipulation, layering, embellished in light reflective beads and sequins. A rich colour palette of royal blue and purple set against an immense halo of gold, orange and green. Can be used as a religious or fertility altar.
I miss the lively hearing aids
''I miss the lively hearing aids'' featured in the July 2019 issue of KURVE magazine. Original poetry, hand embroidred in silk threads, captures the essence of my childhood visiting family at South Shields. Textile wall hanging created from recycled materials using traditional methods of applique, patchwork and quilting. Beautiful colours and prints of summer embellished in light reflective beads and sequins.
Summer Swatches
KURVE magazine article featuring 'Summer Swatches' from The Natural Collection. Abstract textile capturing the intense heat of our summers in a vivid colour palette of hot reds and pinks, oranges and gold, blues and greens. Layered off-cuts, roughly cut to promote texture through naturally frayed edges, hand stitched in silk threads matching the colours of surrounding fabrics. Great depth and mobility achieved in anchoring only the top edge of swatches, leaving panels free to stand proud of the surface. A mix of colour and pattern.
