Capturing the essence of Springtime

'Beneath the folds with Christine Cunningham' explores 'Capturing the Essence of Springtime' for mrxstitch magazine.

We look at how to build a colour palette of new Spring shoots and flowers using traditional patchwork and applique techniques, layering fabric off-cuts, creating a textural surface with wool and naturally frayed fabrics, embellishing with light reflective beads, buttons, sequins and old jewels to establish light and depth within the contouring of the surface.

Join me in the hunt for brightly patterned eggs in ''Easter Sandals'', original poetry capturing fond memories of my childhood in The North East of England, hand embroidered in a crochet thread.

Examples from 'Spring Garden' and 'Springtime', seasonal abstracts from The Natural Collection.
